Professor Liu Jiming is currently Associate Vice-President (Research Development), Chair Professor in Computer Science, and Director of the HKBU/CS & CCDC/NIPD Joint Research Laboratory for Intelligent Disease Surveillance and Control. He joined HKBU in 1993, and has served as Associate Vice-President (Research), Dean of Science, Associate Dean of Science (Research), Head of the Department of Computer Science, and Director of the Centre for Health Informatics.
Professor Liu received his PhD and Master of Engineering degrees in Electrical Engineering from McGill University, Canada. His scholarly work over the past three decades has spanned multiple fields, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Multi-Agent Systems, Machine Learning, Complex Systems, and Computational Epidemiology. Professor Liu is serving or has served as the Founding Editor-in-Chief, Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, and Associate Editor of various prestigious international journals. He has been invited to deliver Keynote and Plenary Talks at numerous international conferences in the fields of Computer Science and AI, including the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI).
Professor Liu was elected as Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) in 2011 for his research contributions to Autonomy-Oriented Computing (AOC) and Web Intelligence (WI). He was a recipient of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award in 2017. Recently, Professor Liu has led funded research projects and initiatives towards AI and Data Science-enabled transformation in disease surveillance and response, and has worked closely with the national and local Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) on the last-mile challenges of China’s Malaria Elimination, one of the major milestones in global health.
