Professor LIU Jiming

Interim Provost

Professor Liu received his PhD and Master of Engineering degrees both from the Department of Electrical Engineering (and Centre for Intelligent Machines) at McGill University, Canada, after a Master of Arts in Educational Technology (Intelligent Tutoring Systems) and a Bachelor of Science in Physics.  Throughout his academic research spanning more than four decades, Professor Liu has made sustained contributions to the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Intelligent Machines, Agent Technology, Machine Learning, and Digital Epidemiology.  He has advanced foundational theories in Autonomous Agents and Autonomy-Oriented Computing, developing frameworks that have influenced the modeling of real-world complex systems.  His scholarship has also enriched the understanding of emerging intelligent networked systems, as well as data-driven methodologies for addressing complex public-health challenges.

Professor Liu has served as the Founding Editor-in-Chief, Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, and Associate Editor of various prestigious international journals.  He has been invited to deliver Keynote or Plenary Talks at numerous international conferences in the fields of Computer Science and AI, including the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI).

Professor Liu was elected as Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) in 2011 for his research contributions to Multi-Agent Autonomy-Oriented Computing and Web Intelligence.  He was a recipient of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) Wu Wen-Jun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award in 2017 and the Ministry of Education Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Award in Natural Sciences in 2018.
