The Chief Executive Mrs Carrie Lam visited HKBU and met with the University’s senior management on 19 July to learn more about the University’s latest developments.

Accompanied by Dr Clement Chen, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU, Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, and other HKBU senior management members, Mrs Lam visited the facilities of the School of Chinese Medicine, including the Chinese Medicine Pharmaceutics Laboratory, the Shum Yiu Foon Sum Bik Chuen Memorial Centre for Cancer and Inflammation Research, and the Mr. & Mrs. Chan Hon Yin Chinese Medicine Specialty Clinic and Good Clinical Practice Centre.

Mrs Lam said HKBU is the pioneer of Chinese medicine tertiary education in the city, and she is pleased that the University has been selected as the operator of the Chinese Medicine Hospital in Tseung Kwan O through open tender. She hopes that HKBU will continue to give full play to its experience in Chinese medicine teaching, training, scientific research and service operations to contribute to the initiative of the current-term Government to incorporate Chinese medicine into the Hong Kong healthcare system to advance the development of Chinese medicine.

Mrs Lam also visited the Department of Music’s Laboratory for Immersive Arts and Technology. With creative media and practice as one of HKBU's interdisciplinary clusters, the Laboratory is the first of its kind in the tertiary education sector in Asia, and it enables the application of technology in the artistic creation process. Noting that the integration of arts and technology has become a new global trend, Mrs Lam said that the development of art tech was proposed in her 2020 Policy Address. The Government has also set up an interdepartmental task force to formulate strategies and measures to develop and promote art tech, and encourage the active participation of the relevant sectors.
