HKBU organises CLAP-TECH creative boot camp

The CLAP-TECH Pathway Project (CLAP-TECH), launched by HKBU under the Jockey Club Multiple Pathways Initiative, held a creative boot camp in August. The boot camp was designed for the first cohort of secondary school students taking the “Multimedia Storytelling” course, an Applied Learning course within the senior secondary curriculum that aims to help them master the skills for creating compelling video content.

The three-day creative boot camp arranged a series of hands-on workshops for about 100 students from seven participating secondary schools, and the participants learnt cross-media production skills, including studio filming, live broadcasting, chroma key studio techniques, as well as podcast and voice-over production. Social media influencers were also invited to share their effective marketing campaigns. At the end of the training, all the participating students formed groups and produced their own creative short videos.

“Multimedia Storytelling” is a new Applied Learning course at the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education level, and it was launched in early 2022. The course is part of the CLAP-TECH project, and it is funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Throughout the learning journey, students developed their interests, skills and competencies through an in-class curriculum and a wide range of workplace exposure activities, such as mentorships, internships, company visits and projects.

Professor Kara Chan, Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching) of the School of Communication and Academic Director (Creative Media) of the CLAP-TECH Centre, and Dr Maggie Fung, Senior Curriculum Manager of the CLAP-TECH Centre, are the academic leaders of the creative media study track.

There are currently two tracks of study focusing on Information, Communications Technology (ICT) and Creative Media under CLAP-TECH. Since its inception, CLAP-TECH has engaged over 450 local students.
