The HKBU Centre for Sino-Christian Studies has launched a one-year “Cultivating Peace” programme in collaboration with SKH Bishop Baker Secondary School, SKH All Saints’ Middle School, and St. James’ Settlement. It allows 60 secondary two to six students to reflect on the meaning of peace by participating in social service initiatives, social studies projects and art activities. They can also apply what they have learnt in the community.

The programme offered a total of four workshops at the two partnering schools between October and December. Topics included understanding the concept of “Peacebuilding”, managing emotions, listening and communication skills, and reviewing individual life stories. The students will participate in community service initiatives between March and May 2023 to apply the knowledge they have learnt. In addition, they will collaborate with artists to bring to life their hopes and thoughts about peace through the creation of artworks, and they also aim to inspire the public with their completed pieces.

The kick-off ceremony for the “Cultivating Peace” programme was held on 22 October. The guests who attended the event included Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning); Professor William Cheung, Associate Vice President (Undergraduate Programmes); Professor Stuart Christie, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts; Rev Tse Hung, the Chaplain; Dr Kwok Wai-luen, Head of the Department of Religion and Philosophy at HKBU; Miss Hui Wah-ying, Principal of SKH All Saints’ Middle School; Mr Wong Lik-hak, Principal of SKH Bishop Baker Secondary School; and Mr Cooke Cheung, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of St. James’ Settlement.
