HKBU hosts webinar to promote intellectual property education

HKBU jointly organised the Intellectual Property Forum Greater Bay Area 2022.

 

The Knowledge Transfer Office and the University Library at HKBU, together with the Faculty of Law at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), Research Services and Knowledge Transfer Office at the University of Macau, and the Intellectual Property Department of the HKSAR Government, jointly organised the Intellectual Property Forum Greater Bay Area 2022 with the theme “Empowering your IP knowledge on Art Tech and Health Care!” on 26 and 27 May to promote intellectual property rights education.

The webinar began with the opening speeches given by Mr David Wong Fuk-loi, Director of the Intellectual Property Department of the HKSAR Government, and Dr Claudia Xu Jian, Vice-Rector (Administration) of the University of Macau. It attracted the participation of over 250 faculty members, students, librarians, and administrative and research staff from higher education institutions in Hong Kong, Macau and the Mainland, as well as startup entrepreneurs and industry leaders.

On the first day of the webinar, Miss Gigi Chung Tsui-chi and Mr Joseph Yeung Kin-hang, Senior Solicitors of the Intellectual Property Department of the HKSAR Government; Dr Oliver Lutze, Country Manager for China of Spruson & Ferguson (Asia) Beijing; and Professor Hu Yuanjia, Associate Professor of the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences at the University of Macau, shared their professional insights on the themes “Copyright and patent in Hong Kong”, “Pharmaceutical patenting in China - how is it different from other jurisdictions?”, and “Big data and biomedical patents”.

Mr Joerg Sosna, Principal of Trade Marks of Spruson & Ferguson (Hong Kong) Limited, and Professor Alice Lee Suet-ching, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Law at HKU, shared their expert knowledge on the themes “Trade marks and the metaverse” and “Empowering your copyright knowledge” on the second day of the webinar, and they also addressed questions raised by online participants.
