HKBU received the Energy Management Grand Award in the “Catering and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises/Non-Governmental Organisations/Educational Institutes” category of the Smart Energy Award 2023, organised by CLP Power Hong Kong Limited. This prestigious recognition acknowledges HKBU’s outstanding performance in innovative energy saving and improving energy efficiency. The award presentation ceremony took place on 17 October.
To achieve its goal of becoming a low-carbon campus, HKBU has made a series of enhancements to its facilities. Notably, the installation of about 1,800 square meters of solar panels is expected to generate about 450,000 kWh of clean energy each year. HKBU has also upgraded the chillers, lighting systems and laboratories’ fume hoods, installed occupancy sensors, etc. These measures are projected to save about 1.6 million kWh of electricity annually. Furthermore, HKBU has implemented remote monitoring and analysis of energy data, resulting in more than 250,000 kWh of unnecessary electricity consumption saved through the energy audit conducted for four campus buildings last year.
In addition, HKBU’s Crop Science Laboratory located at the Sir Run Run Shaw Building of the Ho Sin Hang Campus earned a spot as a finalist in the “HKIA Special Award Heritage & Adaptive Re-use” category of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects Annual Awards 2022/23, and the “Existing Buildings Category: Completed Projects – Institutional” of the Green Building Award 2023, co-organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council and the Professional Green Building Council.
