The HKBU student team clinches the championship in the Hong-Kong/Asia qualifying round of contest of this year’s Left Bank Bordeaux Cup.

A team of four HKBU students clinched the championship in the Hong-Kong/Asia qualifying round of this year’s Left Bank Bordeaux Cup (LBBC). The team will represent the Hong-Kong/Asia region to compete in the final round of the contest to be held in France.

LBBC, organised by the highly reputable French wine appreciation guild Commanderie du Bontemps, is one of the largest global wine contests, attracting participants from universities and schools from all over the world every year. Participants need to demonstrate good knowledge of the Bordeaux wine château labels and wine classifications, as well as identify different wines by blind tasting.

This year the HKBU team comprising Chan Man-fai (Year 4, European Studies-German Stream), Lee Chak-chuen (Year 4, Government and International Studies), Lam Ting-yan (Year 3, Humanities) and Chan Ka-lai (Year 2, Finance) outshone their strong contenders from HKU, HKU SPACE, HKUST, Nanyang University (Singapore) and KyungHee University (South Korea) in an online competition held on 20 March, with their outstanding knowledge in oenology and wine-tasting techniques.

The HKBU team has advanced to the final of the LBBC to be held at Lafite-Rothschild castle in France on 16 June. They will further compete with the winning teams from North America, Europe, France and Mainland China.
