Organised by the Chaplain's Office, the 68th Anniversary Founders’ Day Thanksgiving Service was held on 4 March at the University Chapel to commemorate the founding of the University. Dr Ronald Lu, Chairman of Ronald Lu & Partners and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation, delivered a thanksgiving message on the occasion.

In his speech, Dr Lu said: “Both my great grandfather and grandfather did not have the opportunity to go to school. The first Lui Ming Choi Foundation school was opened in 1960 by my grandfather, the late Mr Lui Ming Choi. These schools share a similar concept to that of HKBU, which is to provide education and to bring the gospel to all. In honour of my grandfather’s memory, the Foundation emphasises dedication to God, and helping children from economically challenging backgrounds.

“It is a tradition that we build chapels in schools that we support. In 1973, during the global recession, our family foundation provided funding for the design and construction of this Chapel where we are now.”

Dr Clement Chen, Chairman of the Council and Court, read the HKBU Mission Statement while Mr Raymond Kwok, Honorary Court Member, quoted from the Bible on stage. Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, also delivered a speech through a pre-recorded video. Members from the Christian Band, Christian Choir and Mandarin Choir, student organisations under the Chaplain’s Office, sang hymns to praise the Lord. Students from the Christian Student Union served as ushers in the event. Rev Tse Hung, Chaplain, ended the service with a thanksgiving prayer.
