The HKBU community is beaming with pride as our talented student athletes compete at the ongoing Asian Games held in Hangzhou. Among these exceptional individuals, Cheung Ka-long, Forrest Shanna Sanman, Ma Kwan-ching and Ngai Wai-yan have performed excellently in their respective events, bringing home one gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
Cheung Ka-long, a member of the Fencing Team of Hong Kong, China, showcased his exceptional prowess and determination during the Men’s Foil Individual event, winning Hong Kong’s first ever gold medal in fencing at the Asian Games. At the Men’s Foil Team event, Ka-long and his team clinched a bronze medal with their outstanding performance.
Forrest Shanna Sanman, a member of the Rugby Team of Hong Kong, China, secured the bronze medal in Women’s Rugby Sevens. Ma Kwan-ching and Ngai Wai-yan, members of the Windsurfing Team of Hong Kong, China, earned the silver medal in the Women’s Windsurfing – iQFoil event and the silver medal in the Women’s RS:X Windsurfing event respectively.
While our winners’ triumph has captivated the attention of sports enthusiasts, the performance of other HKBU students at the Asian Games is also commendable. Lau Chi-lung competed in the Men’s Nanquan and Nangun all-round event, while Au Sin-ying and Leung Lok-man showcased their skills in the Women’s Saber Individual event and the Women’s Team Sabre event.
Furthermore, Wong Tsz-to, another HKBU student athlete, will compete in the Mixed Team Triathlon Relay on 2 October.
The track and field events see the participation of Shek Kam-ching in the Men’s 100m event. Shing Cho-yan will take on the Women’s 100m Hurdles event on 1 October. Additionally, Shek Kam-ching and Chan Chun-ho will strive for good results in the Men’s 200m event on 2 October.
Professor Alexander Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, is thrilled to see that HKBU students continue to record outstanding performances at the Asian Games. He says that the HKBU community is immensely proud of its students’ remarkable achievements in the sports arena, which reflects that the University’s staunch support for elite athletes not only enhances their personal development, but also contributes actively to sports in Hong Kong.
