Dr the Hon Kennedy Wong Ying-ho, BBS, JP, has been appointed by the HKSAR Government as Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU for a term of three years with effect from 1 January 2025.

Dr Wong is the Managing Partner of Philip K.H. Wong, Kennedy Y.H. Wong & Co. He is active in community service, particularly in initiatives concerning youth development. In 2003, he was named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World and was appointed to the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. In 2022, he took office as Member of the Legislative Council, representing the Import and Export functional constituency. A passionate supporter of HKBU, Dr Wong is currently the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the School of Chinese Medicine. In 2013, he was conferred with the title of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, in recognition of his significant contributions to HKBU and the community.

Welcoming the appointment, Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, said: “We are delighted with the appointment of Dr Wong as the new Chairman of the Council and the Court of the University. He is no stranger to the HKBU community as he was a long-serving member of the Council and the Court from 2002 to 2010, and since the establishment of the HKBU Foundation in 2009, he has been serving as a member of its Board of Governors and Chairman since 2018. With his acclaimed public service, corporate governance and professional accomplishments, as well as his visionary insights and rich experience, Dr Wong will undoubtedly lead HKBU to new heights.”

On behalf of the University community, Professor Wai also expressed his heartfelt thanks to the outgoing Chairman of the Council and the Court Dr Clement Chen Cheng-jen, GBS, JP.  He said: “Since 2019, Dr Chen has shouldered the crucial responsibility of steering the governance of HKBU. Dr Chen’s far-reaching vision and exemplary leadership contributed substantially to the University’s outstanding achievements in education, research, campus development and garnering societal support during the period.”
