Love for running unites the HKBU community

31 Jan 2024

Among the enthusiastic runners who took part in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2024 were over 550 HKBU staff, students, alumni and friends. The signature event held on 21 January saw HKBU runners uniting for a common goal, which is to give their best as they dashed past the finish line.

In addition to being energised by the spectators, HKBU runners also enjoyed the support and encouragement at various points along the route from a dedicated cheering team. And yet it was the power of perseverance to push through challenges that propelled the runners to the finish line, including Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, who completed the 10-kilometre run. Professor Wai says: “Participating in the marathon alongside the HKBU community has been a memorable experience. Together, we run as a team and exemplify HKBU’s spirit of pursuing excellence and self-transcendence.”

At the booth set up by the University at the Causeway Bay Sports Ground, around 50 Chinese medicine teachers and students provided massage therapy for HKBU runners. Our runners also gathered at the booth, taking photos, cheering each other on and collecting souvenirs to celebrate the memorable experience.

Before the race, a triathlete and student of the Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Recreation Management programme, Wong Tsz-to, who has won the Standard Chartered Marathon 10km race twice, appeared in a short video and shared his running tips. Professor Wai also made a guest appearance in the video. Click here to revisit the running tips and gear up for next year’s race!
