Committed to promoting the “Study in Hong Kong” brand, HKBU co-hosted the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) 2026 Conference and Exhibition from 23 to 27 February 2026 with seven other universities funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC).

Fostering internationalisation of higher education

A signature international higher education conference, the APAIE 2026 Conference and Exhibition attracted the participation of over 3,000 education leaders from more than 70 countries and regions. It featured pre-conference workshops, summit forums, keynote speeches and exchange activities.

On the first day of the Conference, Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, moderated a panel discussion at the Presidents’ Dialogue themed “Building Resilience and Trust in an Era of Global Risks”. The session brought together 70 university leaders from institutions from 19 countries and regions to explore how universities can address challenges and prepare future-ready students.

On day two, Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), co-moderated the “Plenary Session with Student Voice: Global Perspectives on Student Success in Hong Kong” and shared his insights with the attendees on how Hong Kong’s unique advantages in higher education have shaped students’ growth and future careers. Mr Ryan Man, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies) and Director of the Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) programme at the School of Business, spoke at the session titled “Bridging Cultures through Dual Degrees: French-Hong Kong Academic Partnerships” on how HKBU’s dual degree programmes in partnership with French institutions enhance graduates’ employability and intercultural competencies.

Promoting international exchange and collaboration

During the “Study in Hong Kong” Week, HKBU hosted the “HKBU Partners Session” on 27 February, welcoming around 100 representatives from institutions across 27 countries and regions on campus. Professor Alex Wai kicked off the event and Dr Albert Chau introduced HKBU’s development over the years as well as its latest achievements, followed by a presentation on transdisciplinary education by Professor William Cheung, Associate Vice-President (Transdisciplinary Education). Students also took to the stage to share their reflections, with Deans, Associate Deans and Academy Directors from different faculties and schools engaging with the guests during the networking session that ensued.

The guests were also invited on a campus tour of the Jockey Club Campus of Creativity, Village CARE, art tech studios, Visualization Research Centre and the Dorothy Shen Wong News Studio, to experience firsthand the cutting-edge facilities at HKBU.

Exposure to diverse learning and cultural experiences

In line with Hong Kong’s position as an international education hub, HKBU spares no efforts in attracting high-calibre talent to study in Hong Kong. To reinforce the “Study in Hong Kong” brand, HKBU organised the first-ever “International Student Rural Revitalisation Service-Learning Camp” with the charitable organisation Wu Zhi Qiao in February.

The event brought around 20 non-local students from the Chinese Mainland, Albania, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Thailand, and the United States to the “Hakka Life Experience Village at Lai Chi Wo”, enabling them to gain a deeper understanding of Hong Kong as an international city where East meets West, with its unique blend of modernity and tradition.

Through regular Extended Study Programmes within the Greater Bay Area, international students also have the opportunity to study at the Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University in Zhuhai.
