Mrs Mary Suen was born and educated in Mainland China. In 1985, she and her husband Dr Simon S M Suen jointly established SML Group Limited, at which she is currently a Director. As a leading supplier of total brand identification solution with a presence over thirty countries, SML provides a full range of services to an international clientele comprising top fashion brands and some of the largest retailers in the world, as well as high quality products including woven labels, printed fabric labels, RFID, EAS, heat transfer, printed paper products, variable data tags and labels, packaging, and specialty trim.
 
Mrs Suen spares no effort in promoting charitable and meaningful causes, with special emphasis on children’s welfare and the underprivileged. She has rendered service to many charitable organisations and has made donations in support of the long-term sustainable development of the underprivileged with a view to elevating them from poverty. An active participant in community service, she was a member of the 57th Term Board of Directors of Pok Oi Hospital and the 30th and 31st Term Board of Directors of Yan Oi Tong. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of both Yan Chai Hospital and Yan Chai Hospital Law Chan Chor Si College. She is also a Director of the Love U All Charitable Foundation, Honorary Vice-President of the Hong Kong Federation of Women, and a member of the Entrepreneurs Committee of the Hong Kong Federation of Women. Mrs Suen’s many contributions to the community are well noted.
 
Mrs Suen understands the importance of cultivating talent for the future and has made many significant contributions to the development of the University. In June 2010, Dr. and Mrs Suen donated HK$250,000 to found the Mr and Mrs Simon Suen Scholarship for Outstanding Students. In March 2011, Dr and Mrs Suen made a generous donation of HK$30 million to establish the Development Fund for Mr Simon Suen and Mrs Mary Suen Sino-Humanitas Institute, with the aim of promoting research and academic and cultural exchange in Chinese studies and sinology. In July 2011, SML Group Limited donated HK$1 million in support of the Human Resources Management Mentoring Programme of the School of Business, helping to expand the scope of the Programme to provide more chances of placement and vocational training for students interested in the human resources field. In 2013, Mrs Suen served as Vice-Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Fundraising Dinner for the HKBU Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology (JAS), and successfully helped the University solicit HK$7 million of donations for the Academy. Dr and Mrs Suen also bid HK$3,180,000 for a fine work of art donated by Professor Jao Tsung-I during the charity auction at the JAS Fundraising Dinner. Thanks to the wise counsel and tremendous support of Mrs Suen, the Dinner raised more than HK$46 million for the Academy and secured its long-term development.
 
Mrs Mary Suen has a positive outlook on life and has achieved remarkable success in business. For years she has been committed to serving society and has rendered precious support to the University.
