12 June 2022

Two HKBU students, Sze Po-yee (Accounting, Year 4) and Yeung Tsz-ching (Chinese Medicine, Year 5), were among the five Hong Kong representatives to compete against nearly 33,000 candidates from across the country in the 2022 National Outstanding Youths contest.

Both reached the final round of the competition, and Po-yee was selected as one of the 142 national outstanding youths, making her the only winner from Hong Kong. It is the first time that the competition has accepted entries from Hong Kong.

Po-yee has been active in social affairs and voluntary service since secondary school. She was one of the ten merit students in the 30th HKSAR Outstanding Student Selection. She said that she feels honoured to receive the award, and she is delighted to show her compatriots the competence and competitiveness of young people in Hong Kong.

Tsz-ching aspires to use her Chinese medicine knowledge to help people of all ages and backgrounds. She created an AI Chinese Medicine diagnostic platform named TCMFDA with her classmates to promote Chinese medicine and the integration of Chinese and Western medicine in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. Lined up by the organiser, Tse-ching was featured in the China Media Group programme “Radio The Greater Bay Area”, and she shared her story.

The National Outstanding Youths, hosted by the Communist Youth League of China, aims to commend the outstanding youths who take the lead in practising the core values of socialism and promoting positivity. The selection is held once a year to shortlist young role models from various fields and industries who are dedicated, innovative, entrepreneurial, diligent in their learning, and committed to serving the underprivileged. Prospective candidates should also be virtuous and conduct themselves properly.
