The Academic Registry hosted the “Secondary School Principals’ Day 2026” on 11 March under the theme “Immersion in Creativity and Innovation at HKBU”. The event attracted over 130 principals and teachers from more than 80 local and international schools.
In his opening remarks, Dr Albert Chau, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) of HKBU, said that transdisciplinary learning is pivotal to nurturing creativity and innovation. The University’s curriculum equips students with essential skills and mindset to tackle complex real-world challenges. He also expressed gratitude to the secondary schools and industry partners for their continuous supports in engaging in meaningful exchanges with the University community on emerging education issues over the past 20 years.
Dr Edward Clapp, Principal Investigator of Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Founder of the Next World Learning Lab, delivered a keynote address titled “Reframing Creativity as a Participatory Process: From Solo to Social”. He challenged the traditional view of creativity as the work of a sole individual, introducing the concept of "Participatory Creativity". He emphasised that education must foster collective creative environments, redefining invention as a social behaviour to enable all students to shine in creative classrooms.
Participants also enjoyed the immersive Student Poster Session, which showcased HKBU students’ service-learning projects and transdisciplinary initiatives that brought creativity and innovation to life. They also toured the Jockey Club Campus of Creativity, including Jockey Club White Box Experimental Space and other state-of-the-art facilities.
On the same day, over 70 principals and career teachers from 56 schools joined the Career Planning Forum, where they received updates on HKBU’s academic developments and diverse learning opportunities, and explored the latest education and career trends.
