Supporting elite student athletes to excel in academic and sports developments

27 Oct 2022

For outstanding Hong Kong student athletes, receiving a quality university education helps prepare them for lifelong developments beyond sports. Recently, 15 elite student athletes embarked on their study journeys at HKBU in the academic year starting in September. They were enrolled through the University’s admissions schemes designated for elite athletes, including the Talented Athletes Direct Admission Scheme (TADAS) launched this year.

HKBU is committed to supporting athletes in their pursuit of sporting excellence and academic development. Since the establishment of its Elite Athletes Admission Scheme (EAAS) in 2016, the University has admitted more than 70 student athletes. Following the introduction of the Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission Scheme by the University Grants Committee in February 2022, HKBU has enhanced EAAS and launched TADAS.

The student athletes admitted this year, who are either current or former members of Hong Kong sports teams, specialise in a diverse range of sports, namely athletics, fencing, karatedo, rugby, soccer, swimming, table tennis and Wushu. They were enrolled in the first or third year of HKBU’s Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Physical Education and Recreation Management (PERM) programme, with their studies supported by scholarships awarded by the University. The scholarship presentation ceremony was held on 27 October 2022.
